I have been here twice already and this time we came as a group and everyone had a great time! Come with your own tube or you may rent one of their tubes. The bus ride to the location was fun with some good music to bump to on the way.
Advice & Tips: Bring sunscreen, bring your own mixed drinks and beverages, maybe some snacks that can be contained and not get wet, keep and maintain your own trash please to keep the river clean. NO GLASS OR STYROFOAM
Alright... so I had a blast. The river was beautiful, as always, and the weather was pretty perfect with some cloud coverage from time to time. I went at 12:30PM on a Thursday and the shuttle to the drop off left right after I paid. The only issue I had was that once dropped off I went to inflate my tube, I bring my own, but they didn't have the connection for an ordinary black tube. So I had to take two of their tubes so I could tow mine back. I tried calling a couple of times but couldn't get through.
That said...
All went well and I had a great time. Here's some things to know...
If you are bringing your own tube do not inflate it beforehand.
There are some great places to sit and enjoy yourself alms you really should.
It took me about 3 hours on a weekday.
I will be back... just need to figure out my tube situation. It felt weird not having my usual tube.
KEEP THE RIVER CLEAN!
It's okay to have a unique experience with your family or friends. Basically, you just go down the river for 3-4 hours and you can rent a cooler float to take drinks and food. I do recommend sunscreen and instead of open sandals wear closed-water shoes because there are a lot of rocks and is very slippery.
It was great. Affordable and we really liked that they shuttled you to the start and you ended at your own vehicle.
This is my second time using Don’s. First time amazing service. The ladies at the booths were friendly and enthusiastic. This time the ladies were still great, but the guy sitting under the trailer at the tubes area was a complete a$$. We had a larger cooler and ordered a cooler tube. We confirmed with the girl at the front we could use a yellow tube. Nope didn’t happen. The guy stated “ we’re not using the yellow ones today, the black ones is what you get. “. I explained our cooler wouldn’t fit. He just shrugged his shoulders. So we grabbed a black one and made it work unfortunately all our snacks and food was ruined and the cooler ice melted due to it being tilted and sideways.
We travel to TX once a year in July every year and this is Our Place!! We love the float down the river and we take the whole family. We usually do 2 floats in a day. They last about 3 hours and the views from the river are so wonderful. The trees are just astounding. The small rapids keep it fun for the younger ones. And it's usually a very relaxing day on the river and the Fish Camp which provides the bus ride to the drop off is decent. The buses are older but we feel that's just part of the experience.
We're camping and SUP'ing. Spoke w/Cody, who's actively managing Don's now. Super good guy. Wants to be paddler-friendly. Talk to them if you want to gravelbar camp, either passing by or base camping. 👍 …
Had a great time on the river and got all the things we needed from Don’s. Our tubes were sturdy and air was provided to pump them up before the float. We got coolers and tubes to take food and drink along for the ride, and the dry bags worked great for our other items. Thanks for a great day.
